The next official match of the season for the Magpies is against Gharghur on the 27th September 2009 at 11.00am in Victor Tedesco stadium in Hamrun. This is the first match for both teams in the second division league. The objectives and expectations are high and the way to achieve promotion back to the first division league is long and hard. This long route can only be accomplished if the whole club, including players, committee and supporters remain all united in all ups and downs that are to be encountered through all the way until the last match.

Unfortunately there are no precedents between the two teams from season 1997/98 to today and so I cannot provide you with any history results. Thus, this will be the first official encounter against each other.

Official matches played by Rabat this season (WW)
Rabat vs Attard 2-0 (Second & Third Division Knock-Out)
Mtarfa vs Rabat 1-4 (Second & Third Division Knock-Out)

From the first offical matches of the season both teams seem to be doing well were they both started with two comfortable victories. At this stage of the competition, this is a very important match for both teams since it will decide if they will continue in the quarter-final stage of the competition or be eliminated. It is a 'death-match' situation where only a couple of results are acceptable for both teams.

As it is the situation the story is more complex for Rabat since only a victory result will do for them. A victory for them would mean that they finish lonely in the first place of this group and leaving Lija in second place. On the other hand Lija have the advantage to play for two type of results, that is a draw or a victory. A victory will send Lija lonely in the first place of this group and leave Rabat in second place. If they manage to obtain a draw they would still finish in top place due to better goal difference when compared to their next opponents Rabat.
